Crushing Safe Through Short Fiction

Postby jollygreen23 » Sun Jun 13, 2010 2:18 am

I have a confession: I hide behind novels. Having that many words makes me feel safe.

I've taken writing classes that required me to write short stories and I hated what I wrote. I didn't put passion into those stories. It just wasn't the same as my novels.

At least, that's what I told myself.

But I recently committed to writing short fiction for the public domain. I'm going to post something once a week on my blog that's just for fun. I'm letting a fictional character "take over" my Thursday blog posts. Maybe people will like it, maybe not, but it'll be there.

Take that, safe.

Sounds like fun--I admire your willingness to put it out there, and I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Ooh, yes, that does sound like fun! And, speaking selfishly, a free read! :)TX

Short stories are tough, but when you come up with that idea that just makes your heart sing...it's worth it. I haven't had many short stories turn out the way I wanted them to, but some did.

I can't wait to read about your character on your blog. I bet it'll be lots of fun.

Congrats on crushing safe!

Yes! Writing fiction live on the internet without a safety net is definitely the sharp end of writing.

I'm cheering for you.
