Holly Lisle's Free Professional Plot Outline Mini-Course
"Even If You Have NO Story Idea,
NO Characters, and NO Experience,
You Can Finish A Complete Working
Plot Outline
In Just 7 Lessons...
For FREE!"
(Yes, the whole course is completely free.)
If you have ever labored to come up with a GOOD way to start a story...
If you have ever stumbled, lost and frustrated, through the MIDDLE of your book...
If you have ever wondered...
"How do I find an idea worth writing?"...
Stop Struggling.
Help Is Here.
In SECTION ONE of your Mini-Course textbook, I'll give you each step to creating a quick, professional plot outline. I'll do a demonstration, and then, because writers write, they don't just read about writing, you'll do the exercise in which you'll take what I've demonstrated and use it to start building your working plot outline.
In SECTION ONE, you will:
- Figure out your character.
You'll decide on the few points about him or her that really matter---but enough to give you a place to start your story, and not so much that you get bogged down in background and never get to your writing.
- Decide on your central idea.
You'll figure out what actually counts in your story, so you avoid getting bogged down writing details that don't.
- Write your opener.
You'll learn how to give yourself and your readers a GREAT first look at your character doing something fascinating.
- Create your ending.
You'll discover one method of planning out a great conclusion.
- And rough in your middle...
You know...all those pages that used to bog you down when you couldn't figure out what happened next?
Not anymore.

I got a real writing nugget and light bulb moment while doing the first exercise of Ms. Holly Lisle’s “Professional Plot Outline Mini-course”.... Writing a short paragraph, as she instructs, about what my main character does, what he most critically needs and fears kick started me into fleshing out a compelling first draft of my novel. Instead of a daunting blank page I now have a solid road map for a writing adventure and a compelling novel. And this is but one way of getting even more priceless writing-to-be-published wisdom garnered by Ms. Lisle’s experience in having had over thirty of her novels published and making her living as a professional writer for the past 18 years. Her stuff is ‘fair dinkum’...! Grab it while you can. EltonBruce, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia |
But That's Just The Beginning.
My Free Professional Plot Outline Mini-Course also includes seven plot-and-conflict lessons---to make sure you create a story that is tight, fascinating, compelling...
...And as fun for you to write as it will be for your readers to read.

Lesson Seven: | Stories change as you write them. In your final week of class, you’ll learn how to adapt your plot outline to bend with the changes—without breaking your story. |
| Thicken Your Plot! |

A year ago I decided to become a writer. Since then I have purchased books and taken on-line courses. I recently completed one book, have 2 in process, and a series in the works. After reading and taking copious notes on 15-20 books about writing, I came across Holly Lisle while doing internet searches. I have found her course material to be very direct and useful. Most other courses tend to be vague and preachy. Holly has led me to using Scrivener, to step-by-step approaches, and a nitty-gritty, focused approach to working through revisions. I haven’t had to leave my home to develop quickly as an author. The Create A Plot Clinic and Plot-Outline Mini-Course are especially helpful. The plot is at the center of the novel. It is the backbone where the meat can hang off of as your novel takes shape. Holly is wacky and fun, but underneath, she teaches a direct approach that can cut years off of the time it takes to become a serious, production oriented novelist. Joe Carlin, Cary, NC |
"But If It's So Good, Why Is It Free?"
That's a fair question. And I'll give you an honest answer. I sold my first novel in 1991, and went full time in 1992. I've sold, so far, 32 novels in a handful of genres to major U.S. publishers, have had my books translated into about a dozen languages, and have more than a million copies of my books in print. I know how to write, how to tell a story, how to hit deadlines, how to sell my work in down markets, and a lot more.
I'm also a really good teacher. But while you can look me up on Amazon and find my books to see if I know how to write, there really isn't any good way for me to prove to you that I can teach you how to unlock the brilliant, creative part of your brain...
...Except for me to do it.
| From Mystery to Mastery |
|---|
Holly Lisle is one of the rare writers who can not only write, but also teach others how to write. She is able to take the mystery out of plotting, giving step-by-step instruction that will enable you to plot your novels with the confidence of a master. In her own inimitable style, Holly tells you like it is, and she should know — she’s authored more than thirty published novels. Regardless of your skill level, you will most definitely come away from Holly’s course knowing exactly what to do and how to do it. Laurel, Wilmington, Delaware |
I KNOW You Can Create Something Amazing,
Even If You Never Have Before.
I'm betting that in this course, I can show you how to discover more talent within yourself than you ever imagined existed---and I'm hoping that if you like the free course, you'll go on to buy my paid ones.
This course is a tiny appetizer---one admittedly important (but miniscule) segment of the enormous and complex body of knowledge. I'm going to prove to you that I can make this tiny but usually difficult part of novel-writing easy for you.
And I'll let you imagine what you could do with the techniques and processes I've developed that I'm NOT giving away.
| My First Step in Hollyland |
|---|
I took the Plot Mini-Course a few years ago. It was my first experience of Holly’s method, and I immediately fell in love with her no-nonsense, hands-on teaching style. And it worked like magic, too: I had never even imagined plotting like this, and was blown away with the wonderful, fun, and devilishly effective technique taught in the course. Now, several clinics, quite a few workshops, two big courses, a revision, and a novel and a half later, I’m ever so grateful for that one mini-course that introduced me to a whole new writing world. Ivye, Italy |
I take all the risk.
If you don't create something that amazes you in the next several weeks, you've created no obligations, signed up for no strings, and you're not out a dime.
If you do create something you love, then maybe I'll gain a new student, and eventually a new colleague. And that's what I'm looking for.
| Exactly What I Needed |
|---|
Maybe I am a little biased. It started when I arrived at Holly Lisle’s website almost three years ago, knowing I wanted to write professionally, but I needed help. Lots of help. From the many free articles on writing available on her website I learned the basics of character and conflict development and more. After a producing a lovable, but very flawed manuscript, I knew I needed to know more about plotting. So back to her website I went. I signed up for the Create Your Professional Plot Outline Mini Course, and applied her methods of pinpointing what the character needs, determining the central idea of your book, and how to write the beginning of the novel right away. I could see an immediate improvement in my next novel, and so I signed up for her two novel writing classes, How to Think Sideways and How to Revise Your Novel. Every time I realized I had no idea how to do something–whether it be revise my novel without killing it, or exactly how much information I should have before I start writing, Holly Lisle was there with her wonderful ebooks, her online courses, and her invaluable articles, like Create Your Professional Plot Outline Mini Course. Now, with three manuscripts under my belt and one in the works, I still use her Plot Outline Mini Course. There’s more information packed in there than some How to Write books I have purchased, and it’s a really great way to develop crucial information for your novel in as little as one afternoon. Holly Lisle’s methods are easy to use and understand, but the best part is you can apply your own methods to hers. She’s not here teaching that there is One True Way to writing–just what she’s found helpful to her. It’s a rare gift to be able to teach us her writing methods and keeping them flexible. I know even after I get published and have twenty novels under my belt, I will still be using the methods I’ve learned in this Plot Outline Mini Course. Sign up for the Plot Outline Mini Course today; it just might be the decision that changes your writing life. Elizabeth, Georgia |

| Sometimes There IS A Free Lunch |
|---|
I am always interested in improving my own writing, but good advice is hard to find. I didn't expect much from Holly's course on creating a plot outline. I already had some idea how to rough out a plot on my own, and, after all, it is a free course. You know what they say - there ain't no such thing as a free lunch. So I was very pleasantly surprised to discover I got more out of it than I've gained from a lot of the writing books I've bought over the years. Holly has a real gift for explaining the writing process so others can understand it. And understanding the process, as opposed to rigidly following a set of rules, is key to learning how to adapt basic principles to your own needs. The course gave me a much clearer, sharper grasp of what I needed to do to create a plot I could really work with. Seeing how Holly explained it all even helped me explore and review my own writing process. All that with no catch at all, no traps, no hidden costs. Holly Lisle's free writing courses are the exception that proves the rule; totally free lunches that are tasty, nutritious, and leave you with absolutely no reason to regret enjoying them. You CAN do this.
Cheerfully,

Holly Lisle
